The Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) is one of the four schools at MUST which became operational in March 2017. Its Executive Dean is Dr Mwayiwawo Madanitsa. The school has been given mandate to provide training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in different degree programmes in different disciplines and conduct relevant and demand-driven research in areas of interest in Malawi in line with the Malawi National Health Research Agenda. It currently has two departments of Biological Sciences (headed by Dr Petros Chigwechokha) and Clinical Sciences where Dr Fraction Dzinjalamala is the acting Head. The School also operates a Teaching Hospital. It also has a Centre for will also have the International Centre for Clinical and Biological Research.
The Biological Sciences department has been set up to accommodate undergraduate postgraduate courses that have both medical as well as environmental implications.
Some of the programmes under AMS are BSc in Medical Microbiology, BSc in Immunology, BSc in Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiography), BSc in Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Ultrasound), BSc in Sports Science, MSc in Medical Microbiology, MSc in Diagnostic Ultrasound, MSc in Infection and Immunity, and PhD in Maternal and Neonatal Health.
