University Registrar
The office of the University Registrar is established by the MUST Act under Section 16, and is appointed by the Council. The UR is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University. The University Registrar shall exercise such powers and perform such duties in relation to the administration of the University as are assigned by the Act, Statutes, the Council, or as are delegated to him by the VC. Most importantly, the UR provides managerial and administrative leadership to the University, focusing on policy interpretation, human resource management, general administration, staff and students’ welfare and coordination of academic affairs.
a) Providing managerial and administrative advice and support to the Vice Chancellor, Executive Deans, Directors, and Heads of Department;
b) Interpreting MUST policies and policy guidelines and overseeing their implementation;
c) Handling administrative and human resource management activities such as maintenance of staff establishment; development and induction of new staff;
d) Managing the University’s management system; performance management processes; staff welfare; staff discipline and industrial relations;
e) Coordinating staff development matters in conjunction with the Deputy Vice Chancellor;
f) Performing administrative functions relating to academic matters such as admission and registration of students; keeping and updating students’ records; preparing students’ transcripts and academic awards; facilitating the production of various statistics on student matters; preparing teaching timetables in cooperation with Executive Deans; and student discipline;
g) Keeping and maintaining a register of staff members of the University;
h) Keeping custody of the Common Seal of the Council;
i) Dealing with internal and external correspondences;
j) Acting as a contact person between the Legal Counsel and the University on all legal matters involving the University;
k) Coordinating all University ceremonies;
l) Acting as Secretary to the Council, Senate and other Statutory Committees and ensuring that all statutory committee meetings take place and their proper records are kept;
m) Acting as the Spokesperson for the University;
n) Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Act, statutes and Council or as delegated by the Vice Chancellor from time to time;
