Precious Chonzi: A Journey in Materials Engineering

Precious Chonzi is a dedicated lecturer at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), where he earned a Master of Engineering in Materials Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Liaoning, China. His passion for materials engineering is evident in his outstanding academic journey, culminating in a second-class upper Bachelor of Engineering degree from MUST. Holding a prominent position in the Engineering Department, Precious combines his academic achievements and industry experience to contribute significantly to the field of materials engineering and foster a dynamic learning environment at MUST.

As an accomplished Continuous Improvement Engineer at Castel Malawi Limited, Precious spearheaded projects to minimize raw material breakage and significantly contributed to achieving cost reduction targets. His analytical skills and commitment to excellence saved $50,000 through implementing cost-saving techniques like value stream mapping, just-in-time manufacturing, Kaizen, TPM, and Six Sigma. In his role, Precious played a pivotal part in enhancing plant efficiency and ensuring adherence to safety, health, and environmental quality standards, showcasing his multifaceted expertise in engineering and continuous improvement

During his tenure as an assistant lecturer at MUST, Precious demonstrated effective communication of scientific topics, assessed student performance, and provided mentorship in research projects. His dynamic approach to teaching and commitment to fostering student engagement has made a positive impact on the learning environment.

Precious's remarkable journey includes groundbreaking research in steel ingot production, corrosion studies, and projects aimed at revolutionizing cement production. His achievements, including being honored as the outstanding student for Bachelor of Engineering Metallurgy and Materials Engineering and receiving the Best Engineering Student award, reflect his exceptional performance and leadership.

A go-getter with a goal to advance materials engineering through innovative research, Precious is currently a lecturer at MUST, where he contributes to curriculum development, engages in scholarly research, and mentors students in their academic and research pursuits. His commitment to excellence, leadership roles in academic and community organizations, and active involvement in professional institutions make Precious Chonzi an exemplary figure in the field of materials engineering.

Beyond academics, Precious actively engages in community service. He is a member of the Malawi Lions Club International and Initiative for Change (IFC) Charity Organization.
