𝐁𝐲 𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚

Sometimes, the hardest part of any journey is finding the courage to begin, especially when the timing is not perfect. Irina Manjomo had that courage.

While balancing work, motherhood, grief and financial challenges, Irina chose to pursue a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship at MUST.

She began her journey while breastfeeding her eight-month-old baby. There were sleepless nights, difficult days and moments when she could have waited for a better time. But she chose to start with what she had: faith, determination and belief in herself.

On August 6, 2026, that decision became a milestone when Irina graduated from MUST.

Her journey at MUST went beyond the classroom. Her research explored whether livelihood interventions were creating lasting socio-economic change for persons with disabilities in Malawi, reflecting her passion for creating opportunities that can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Irina works as a Programme Coordinator at AGE Africa, where she works closely with young women and girls through programmes aimed at expanding their opportunities and empowering them. She also serves as Board Chairperson for Mulanje Youth Organisation, providing strategic leadership in youth-focused initiatives.

She is also putting her knowledge and entrepreneurial skills into practice through Chikala Eco Farm.

Irina says her MSc has helped her become more strategic in her work, particularly in entrepreneurship, programme development and sustainable livelihoods. The knowledge and skills she gained at MUST continue to shape how she supports programmes that give young people the skills and opportunities they need to build better futures.

 “Reach for the sky. You can become whoever you want to be,” she says.
