Third year Computer Systems and Security student, Joel Chinkhadze, recently donated stone chairs to the university as part of his appreciation for the support he got at a time of his need.

Chinkhadze said since he came for his studies in June of 2022, MUST has been his home away from home.

“Having experienced some financial challenges in 2023/24 academic year, my life became tough. Life was so tough that I could not afford to pay my tuition fees, yet the school held my hand. Now that the storm is over, I thought of showing appreciation to the university through this donation,” he said,

He said he settled for the chairs because he wanted to make a donation that would address a challenge that students currently face on campus. “I consulted my father, Mr Kennedy Chinkhadze and he encouraged me to carry on with the idea of donating stone chairs for the lawns. I sourced some funds through a family business called Associatech Electrical Limited and the chairs were quoted at K1,200,000. However, when the supplier, StoneCrete Rock Solid, noted that this was a donation, he gave a discount and we only paid K900,000,” explained Chinkhadze.

He hoped the donation, apart from giving students space for recreation and leisure, will also strengthen the relationship between students and management.

Receiving the chairs, MUST Acting Estates Development Manager, Christopher Chiwalo was appreciative of the donation.

"I would really thank Chinkhadze for his generous donation of Stone-Crete chairs. His contribution will enhance our campus facilities and provide students with much needed seating spaces,” said Chiwalo.

He added that gesture was a great example of how students and alumni can give back to the university.

“As we continue working to improve our campus environment, we encourage others to follow his example by contributing in ways that benefit the student community,” said Chiwalo.
