The Digitally Enabled Resilience and Nutrition Policy Innovations (DERPIn) project has successfully concluded its two-day learning session in Lilongwe.
Organized by MUST in collaboration with the Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM) and Akademiya2063, the session aimed to address the challenges faced by farmers in the country.
By leveraging digital technologies, the DERPIn project seeks to provide innovative solutions to enhance the resilience of food systems and communities to climate change effects.
The project's investigator, Associate Professor Bennett Kankuzi from MUST, encouraged participants to utilize the project's information to enhance the agriculture sector in the country.
Similarly, Ms Julie Collins, Senior Associate Scientist from Akademiya2063, emphasized the importance of using the project's data to make informed decisions.
Martin Isyagi, a farmer from Sani farm and a participant in the session, commended the organizers, highlighting the session's significance in providing accurate information to farmers.
He noted that many farmers make incorrect decisions due to lack of reliable data, but with the DERPIn project, they will be able to make informed decisions.
The session featured presentations on nutrient adequacy, gender disparities in food systems and map literacy among other presentations.
By transforming the agriculture sector in these countries, the project aims to improve food security, enhance resilience to climate change, and promote sustainable agricultural development.
