As industries evolve, so must education. To ensure that its academic programmes remain relevant, competitive, and aligned with industry trends, Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), through the TAGDev 2.0 program, is conducting a curriculum review in Mulanje.

Started on February 7, 2025, the review focuses on seven programmes, namely MSc in Entrepreneurship (to be combined with Innovation), MEng in Applied Chemical Engineering, MSc in Biotechnology, BSc in Pharmacology, MSc in Clinical Pharmacology, Toxicology and Drug Discovery, MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Manufacturing, and Industrial Pharmaceutical Fellowship.

A key objective of this exercise is to embed entrepreneurship and job creation into these programmes, an essential aspect of TAGDev 2.0’s mandate to drive skills development, industry relevance, and economic transformation.

During the opening session of the meeting, Dr Bonnet Kamwana, Entrepreneurship and Business Development Manager for TAGDev 2.0 program at MUST, provided insights into the program's objectives, emphasizing its role in scholarship provisions and system transformation.

Dr Petros Chigwechokha, TAGDev 2.0 program coordinator, further stressed the importance of integrating entrepreneurial thinking into academic training, ensuring that graduates are not only employable but also capable of creating jobs in their respective fields.

This initiative aligns perfectly with TAGDev’s broader vision of fostering innovative, industry-driven education that meets both local and global demands.

By reimagining these programmes, MUST is taking a proactive step in bridging the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to Malawi’s economic and scientific landscape.
