A team of higher education officials from the Instituto Superior Politecnico de Tete (ISPT) in Mozambique on September 16, 2024 visited the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) to explore potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions.

The ISPT delegation, led by Chairperson of Polytechnic of Tete, Engineer Virgilio F. Ferrao, expressed interest in strengthening academic partnerships, particularly in the fields of engineering, health, and mining.

ISPT, a leading Engineering school in Mozambique, comprises four universities and two polytechnics.

The delegation reviewed MUST’s academic programmes and toured its facilities, including lecture rooms, the library, and laboratories.

At the end of the tour, Ferrao was impressed with MUST’s modern infrastructure and advanced facilities, including its state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.

"The quality of education in Malawi is high, and we are looking for opportunities to improve education in Mozambique through collaboration with Malawian universities," Ferrao said.

He added that the strengthening of ties between the two countries through academic partnerships could enhance both nations' educational standards.

MUST’s partnership liaison officer, Lizzie Nyirenda, thanked the Mozambican team for the visit, noting that engaging with four different universities from Mozambique's Tete Province represented a significant milestone for the university.

"We have built four relationships at once, and we are grateful to the Mozambican officials for visiting. We look forward to continued and fruitful collaboration," she said.

Apart from MUST, the ISPT team plans to engage with other universities in Malawi as part of their efforts to foster regional academic cooperation.
