The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Mibawa Limited, owners of Mibawa TV and Mibawa Studios, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to mount joint training programmes in different media fields.

The MoU signing ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at MUST campus and was attended by officials from the two institutions.

In his remarks, University Librarian Dr Kondwani Wella said as a university MUST would provide the theoretical grounding and aspects of courses while Mibawa, with their facilities, will provide the practical side of the training experience.

He said the collaboration demonstrates the importance of university and industry partnership, saying the approach will ensure that the graduates are market ready.

On his part, Mibawa Limited executive director John Nthakomwa, said the digital world has opened up many opportunities for content creators but this can only be realised if we have professional content creators and a thriving media industry to monetise the content.

He said Mibawa was honoured to partner a university of MUST’s repute, saying this will also render the certificates obtained under the programme recognisable and competitive.

“While we will target those with minimum MSCE qualifications, we will also allow those with experience but no formal training, to enrol into the programmes because we believe in giving the youth an opportunity to grow and advance their talent,” he said.

Meanwhile, the two will soon be meeting to develop curriculum for training programmes in filming and television production, events management, graphic designing and audio (sound) engineering.
