Final year Engineering students from the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) will on April 12, 2025 hold a symposium to showcase their knowledge and skills to potential employers and partners.
Dubbed “Engineering Tomorrow 2025”, the symposium will be held at Lotus Hotel in Blantyre from 8am until 3pm.
Symposiums are significant because they foster in depth exploration and knowledge exchange on specific topics, thereby encouraging intellectual discourse.
Held under the theme of “Innovation for a Sustainable and Smart future,” the symposium will provide an opportunity to MUST’s Engineering students to demonstrate their expertise and knowledge as they interact with progressive industry professionals and potential employers.
The event aligns with the Malawi 2063 pillars by emphasizing on industrialization, technological advancement and human capital development as principal drivers of national innovations.
About 120 students, from Biomedical Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Manufacturing Engineering; Metallurgy and Materials Engineering; and Textile Engineering backgrounds, will participate in the important event.
According to Head of Engineering Department, Dr Lovemore Mkukuma, the students will showcase their skills and knowledge through project presentations, expert speeches, awards and networking session.
“We want the symposium to bridge the gap between academia and the industry thereby fostering collaboration that will empower our graduates to contribute meaningfully to the development of our nation,” said Dr Mkukuma.
One of the students in the organizing committee, Mtondera Vitu-Faith Manda, said this is a win-win platform for both students and industry captains.
“As one of the leading progressive universities in Malawi, MUST invites stakeholders to take advantage of this event as it provides them access to future industry leaders who are highly trained in cutting edge engineering, relevant to Malawi’s industrialization ambitions. There will also be opportunities for collaboration and innovation as they stand a chance to discover fresh ideas and projects that have potential for commercialization and research partnerships,” she said.
“In addition, there is an opportunity for workforce development and talent acquisition as they gain first hand insight to the capabilities of our graduates and finally, knowledge exchange through meaningful discussions on how industry and academia can collaborate to align Engineering education with evolving demands of the industry.”
This symposium is more than just an academic event, it is a catalyst for national progress through Engineering excellence.
MUST extends an open invitation to industry players interested to engage with these students and their lecturers as we participate and support in shaping the future of innovation in Malawi.
