Speakers at the opening writing and dissemination workshop have hailed the power of collaboration in research, totackle its multifaceted nature.
Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) today commenced hosting two international workshops on writing, dissemination, national grant writing, and proposal development.
The workshops, organized by the Social Sciences Research Council (SSRC) under its African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (Next Gen) programs, will run until Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the writing and dissemination workshop in Blantyre today, MUST Vice Chancellor Professor Address Malata, who was the guest of honor, encouraged researchers to develop skills, lead research projects, and create policies that drive change.
She emphasized the importance of supporting young researchers through education to transform Africa.
Professor Cyril Obi, program director for APN and Next Gen, highlighted the workshop's role in improving researchers' knowledge and fostering collaboration.
And on his part Professor Dan Kuwali, Commandant at the National Defence College and keynote speaker, stressed the need for collaboration in research.
He said collaboration in research is crucial as it often requires input from multiple departments, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to achieve successful outcomes.
The writing and dissemination workshop aims to build capacities of early-career academics from 14 African countries.
On the other hand, the national workshop, which opens on February 28, targets academics in Malawi to enhance their research grant writing and proposal development skills.
The SSRC, an independent international non-profit organization, supports innovative research worldwide through APN and Next Gen.
These workshops are held annually to promote research excellence in Africa.
