Third-year Geo-Information and Earth Observation Science (GIS) student at MUST, Lastone Goster, has secured second place in the 2026 ECAMA Essay Writing Competition.
Goster was among four students recognised as winners of the competition, which brought together students from several universities in Malawi.
A student from University of Malawi (UNIMA) emerged first, followed by Goster from MUST, while students from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) and Mzuzu University (MZUNI) took third and fourth positions, respectively.
The competition was advertised during the university holiday, giving students an opportunity to showcase their knowledge, research and writing skills on issues of relevant to Malawi.
โ€œParticipating in the competition provided me with an opportunity to apply my academic knowledge and engage with issues beyond the classroom,โ€ said Goster.
The achievement highlights the growing participation of MUST students in academic competitions and provides an opportunity to encourage more students to take part in similar opportunities.
Through such competitions, students are able to develop their research, writing and critical thinking skills while representing the University in national platforms.
