The Software Developer shall be responsible for developing software packages and systems based on the University’s existing needs. The individual shall join the University ICT team in working with other university stakeholders to ensure that software systems developed meet user and business requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Among others, the Software Developer will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Work with a team of other developers to design, implement and maintain software programs and systems
  2. Cleary communicate with users and work with systems analysts to gather and analyse user requirements
  3. Produce clean, efficient code and associated technical and user documentation based on specifications
  4. Reverse engineer existing software to review functionality
  5. Test software and fix bugs
  6. Collaborate with other developers on projects via online collaboration tools

Qualifications, Attributes and Experience

Interested candidates should possess the following attributes:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or any IT related field from a recognised university
  • At least two (2) years post-qualification experience in a similar position in the private or public sector
  • Working knowledge of database design, SQL and NoSQL database platforms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of front and back-end web languages and technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP/Python/Ruby, AJAX, REST. Knowledge of web MVC frameworks such as Laravel, Symphony or Zend with be an added advantage
  • Practical knowledge of Java, C or C++
  • Working knowledge of version control systems
  • Sharp analytical and problem solving skills
  • A highly motivated individual, able to continuously learn, work with others in a team and accommodate dissenting views
