Head of Industrial Research Centre

The Industrial Research Centre (IRC) is one of the Centres in the University under the Directorate of Research, Postgraduate Studies and Outreach. The mandate of IRC is to undertake industrial research and development programmes and technology and dissemination in Malawi. The Head of the Centre is expected to develop the IRC to become a centre of excellence in industrial research and development, product development and commercialization.


Among other duties, the successful candidate shall establish a self-sustaining Industrial Research Centre that is capable of responding to the industry product development, research and development and needs; Ensure that equipment and machinery at the IRC are up to date for industrial research and product development at all times; In accordance with MUST strategic plan, establish and maintain a strong university-industry linkage and ensure that research conducted at the IRC is relevant to industrial growth and development; Mobilize adequate resources both internally and externally to sustain the programmes of the Industrial Research Centre; Ensure that the IRC supports staff, students and collaborators at MUST to create and commercialize intellectual property.


A PhD in any technology related field with more than 5 years’ experience in managing research and development centres. The candidate must also have experience in carrying out Research and Development work from the initial stage to the end user or stakeholder; be experienced in attracting funding for conducting and implementing Research and Development work; able to build and manage a Research and Development work team and have an industrial/manufacturing exposure.
