TNM, one of the local players in the telecommunications sector, on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, officially handed over a cheque worthy K1.5 million to the Malawi University of Science and Technology.
The money is TNM’s sponsorship towards the university’s charity golf tournament slated for this Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Lilongwe Golf Club.
The tournament has been organised to raise seed money for establishment of a Students Scholarship Fund to support needy students at MUST.
The Vice President, Right Honourable Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima will tee-off the tournament where over 20 teams of four players each, are expected to participate.
TNM head of marketing Sobhuza Ngwenya said they decided to sponsor the gold because the cause is in line with the corporate social responsibility principles of supporting education and the needy.
“MUST also has programmes that are related to the technology industry in which we are a major player. As such, we would like to support students pursuing these programmes because they are our future employees who will help in the development of the company, the technology sector and the nation,” said Ngwenya.
MUST Vice Chancellor Professor Address Malata, who received the cheque on behalf of the university, said she was very grateful to TNM for the support.
“TNM has shown that it is a true partner. As a university we are also supporting TNM through members’ subscription to their network and having programmes that related to the technology sector in general and telecommunications industry in particular. We hope this is just the beginning because we will be having this golf tournament annually and it is our hope that TNM will always be with us,” said Professor Malata.
