MUST At A Glance


BACKGROUND

The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) is the fourth public university established on 17th December, 2012 through Act of Parliament Number 31 of 2012, after the University of Malawi (UNIMA), Mzuzu University (MZUNI) and the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). The University was a brain child of former president of the Republic of Malawi, late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika and was built with funding from the Chinese Government. He laid the foundation stone for the University on April 9, 2011. The university opened its doors to its pioneer students on March 31, 2014 but was officially opened by President Peter Mutharika on October 24 the same year.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • To equip students with the theoretical knowledge and applied skills required to contribute in creating innovative technologies at local, regional and international scales
  • To enhance greater understanding of issues relating to drivers of innovation, innovation and technology development and management in a competitive world economy and knowledge economy
  • To enhance students’ capacity and capability to undertake advanced study by research and manage the R&D functions within high-technology firms; and
  • To develop skills and competences for confronting /addressing the social, ethical, legal and financial constraints within the technological environments
