Where is MUST located?
MUST is located near Ndata Farm along the Malowa-Goliati S150 Road in the tea growing district of Thyolo in Southern Malawi. It is about 30km from Limbe Town in the commercial city of Blantyre and 51 km from Mulanje, another tea growing district and tourist attraction town where the Mulanje Massif is located.
What kinds of qualifications does MUST offer?
There are a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the different schools at MUST. The main qualifications offered are Bachelor’s degrees or Honour’s degrees in a variety of disciplines ranging from engineering, climate and earth sciences, geo-information science, disaster risk management, medical microbiology, business information technology, and computer systems and security. These programmes normally take 4 or 5 years to complete. In addition, there are two Master of Science of degrees in Innovation and Entrepreneurship offered by the Malawi Institute of Technology and plans are underway to introduce more postgraduate programmes at both at Masters and PhD level. The university also offers tailor made short training courses in a number of areas, upon completion of which candidates are awarded certificates.
Is there accommodation provided for new students?
All students are accepted on non-residential basis. Students have to apply for the limited number of college run rooms in a number of hostels. Room allocation is done through a random mechanism on the first come first serve basis, with preference given to students with disabilities. If students are unable to secure college accommodation, they are free to source accommodation at surrounding privately owned houses.
Where can students access food?
The main dining facility is the college cafeteria . Students may purchase food here at an affordable price. However, there are other privately run restaurants around campus.
Are there opportunities for student internship at MUST?
Yes. Occasionally, various schools and departments offer students opportunities to be attached to selected organizations in Malawi during the vacation period. Organizations may also invite applications from students for attachment opportunities.
